Severe drought in California likely to have huge impact on US and Global agriculture
Those of us living in California have been spared the heavy snow, the extreme cold (except for a short period in December) and much of the typical winter mess. However, all is not well in our slice of paradise. Glyphosphate resistant weeds now on 49% of USA farms
49% of USA farms have Glyphosphate (Round UP) resistant weeds as compared to 34% in 2011. Recent data suggests the farming practices that accompany the use of seeds that are genetically modified are a huge reason this is happening as more and more herbicide is having to be used to deal with the weeds. General Mills announces that Cheerios is now Non GMO
In a significant move, General Mills has announced that it has removed all GMO’s from it’s Cheerios brand of cereal. Instead of beet sugar and GMO corn, they have moved to Cane Sugar and Non GMO corn along with whole oats. For more, click here – [link]
What an Organic Label should mean!
Here’s a common sense solution to labeling organic and handling the concerns over GMO’s. It’s frustrating to find out that the plan was already laid out during the Clinton Administration but that the USDA has two internal monitoring groups that are at odds with each other. Milk study looks at Organic Advantages
New research from Washington State University has found statistically significant heart healthy differences in Organic Whole Milk versus Non-Organic. It makes sense that organic foods should be safer, healthier, and simply better for you but finding research that supports this view has been limited at times.
